Summary: A Good Study Guide
Comment: This is a good study guide for the PMP exam. I used this book combined with the actual PMBOK Guide (A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge: (Pmbok Guide)) to prepare, and was able to pass [on my first try].

The book is well organized and easy to read. The sample questions are decent, note that Crowe recommends you test a higher score on his practice questions, than you would need on the exam to pass. This is a good recommendation, reflecting:

a) that his questions generally seem easier and are generally less subjective, and
b) any inherent topic-selection bias

The book does have a few minor errors, for example: the EAC formula on page 182 is incorrect (cumulative CPI should just be CPI), and Cost Account Plan isn't discussed at all except in the glossary, but he tests you on it in the final (Q185)... A good reason to have the PMBOK Guide as a backup reference.

As far as learning practical project management skills, both the PMBOK and the Crowe book are geared towards test preparation. They present shallow practical knowledge, so I recommend looking at other resources if you're looking for actual project management knowledge depth.

Summary: Sold obsolete 3rd edition instead of 4th edition
Comment: I bought this book in aug-2010, not knowing that seller will ship obsolete 3rd edition instead of 4th edition. While selling the book information about edition was hidden so that buyer is caught in trap.
Stupid me, did not realize that they will not sell 4th edition for 20 $.
Lesson learned: you get what you pay for. regret: seller should be honest in providing important information.

Comment: I would highly recommend this PMP exam prep aid as the first book that one should acquire if they are serious in passing their PMP exam, as the title says, on the first try. Mr. Crowe provides all the necessary material in a very easy to acquire format and organization by tying his structure to the PMI's PMBOK organization of material: in AOK (area of knowledge) order.

While other PMP exam prep aids follow suit, some reorder the information into PG (process group) order [see Kim Heldman's fine PMP exam prep aid] which can provide another perspective on the necessary information to pass the exam. However, if you were going to buy only one aid (which I do not recommend), I would not spend the hundreds or thousands of dollars that some of the boot camp outfits charge, this would be my value suggestion.

Go through Mr. Crowe's book from Chapter 1 to 14 taking the chapter exams several times aiming for at least a 90% on each of the tests. After going through his book highlighting as you go, take 3 days off and do something COMPLETELY different, and then return to go through this book reading only your highlighted sections; finishing by taking the chapter exams again. This should prepare you to take some of the free 200 questions online exams or use Mr. Crowe's InSite offering as you see fit.

I will be taking my PMP exam in about 3 weeks, and I have no doubt that I will pass without any problems due in part to addition of Mr. Crowe's PMP exam prep aid: "The PMP Exam, How to Pass on Your First Try," to my preparation routine.

Comment: Excellent preparation guide for PMP certification exam. Very precise, right definition language with ample examples for the Costing, procurement and Communication problems. A must read for all future exam takers.

Summary: Think this book is great
Comment: I just took the PMP exam yesterday and passed first time using this book as a guide. I thought the examples and explanations Andy gives in the book are good, down to earth and easy to understand. If you understand, it's easier to remember. The exam tested on all the areas as he explained and if you took his practice tests repeatedly it gave you good information as to what you still needed to know to pass. I'd recommend this book.
